- Setting: This front cover of the magazine does not have a setting as the background is just a plain white background. This could be that they have used Photo Shop for the image and cleared out the background to suit the magazine style.

Magazine conventions
- Masthead: The 'Vibe' Masthead is not very distinctive, as it does not have a drop shadow or outline. The way the font used is effective as it is big and bold; the Masthead connotes a cool hip hop magazine.
- Dateline: The dateline on this magazine front cover writes ‘April 2008’ which connotes that the publication of this magazine is for the month April.
- Main image: The main image on this magazine front cover is a Janet Jackson she is a successful American singer, songwriter, dancer, record producer, actress, film producer and author. She appears frequently in the magazines, epically in the Vibe magazine. She is posed in a very sexual way, she looks very confident. She is the only person on the page so she has self-centred herself with the audience, her pose, body language and clothing are all very sexually suggestive.
- Cover-lines: The cover line that says ‘Rihanna: Exposed’ this could connote that Rihanna has been exposed to something and they are purposely writing this cover-line to catch the audience’s attention and to make the audience read/buy this magazine.
- Main cover-line: The main cover-line relates to the main image which says ‘Janet Jackson likes to watch’ this is referring to the image that it is her name and how she likes to watch, this connotes music, movies etc.
- Left third: In the left third of this magazine front cover are some cover-lines and the barcode.
- Barcode: The barcode is a very simple barcode which is used by retailers. On top of the barcode is the price of the magazine and on the left side of the barcode is the dateline these are both in standard and simple font.
- Selling line: The selling line on this music magazine front cover says: ‘He’s free, but is he good? The untold story of Busta Rhymes. The selling line is short, sharp and snappy which catches the audience attention and making them what to ready what the untold story is.
- Website link: The website link is ‘vibe.com’ it is placed on the right side of the barcode. The website link is shortened and it is place where it is hard to been seen. The connotation of this website link is to go on the site for more information if you are interested.
- Target audience: I think the target audience is likely to be for younger people, such as teenagers and young adults both being female and male around the age of 14-21. This target audience would have a good knowledge on this character and type of music, so this will define the audience’s interest in different ways. These audiences are more likely to be still in education or working, people who have an interest in the Hip Hop wave.
